just to let you know hitachi are releasing 300gig '3d' disc media over the next year,

after that they will have 1.6TB discs......:D

so if you think that 500gig hard disk you bought is good.......

i have been reading Japanes electronic publications from work which lads bring back from business trips, miles ahead of us they are. their mobile phones are about 5years ahead of Ireland.

At least you can rest assured that your toilet is bigger than a typical
    Japanese house. :D

Why would their technology be years ahead of ours? I thought there was typically a bit of lag with stuff moving west, but I didn't expect them to be /that/ far ahead.

I suppose if they feel there isn't a market for some products/models/features then they wont release them. 'They say' that japs are just a race who are really into their techie stuff where as Europeans are different or not as techie.

As i believe their phones are much more advanced as they have much more advanced needs then us ( along with a much more advanced mobile network ). Such as using your phones RFID to purchase a train ticket, or a newsppaper at a kiosk. Its the same in korea, mobile TV is on huge demand there same with japan. The reason we dont have it is because we probably wouldnt need/use it. And bandwidth bills would be huge so the costs get passed onto the customer. As in japan home lines are known to be 100mb with no cap. So it would be safe to assume its cheap over there.

But as for general pc technology we are about the same really, maybe a few weeks at most in the difference between a new cpu being launched there and here.

Its not just electronics, the whole society is more sophisticated, and the houses are not 'that' small....;), as for the high speed shikansen trains, slightly better than Irish Rail....!

I mean any country that dispenses beer and boxer shorts in vending machines has to be credited!

Laptops and electronic goods are a fraction of the price compared to Ireland, a dell xps would be the same price as here but sony, hitachi, samsung and other far east makes are cheap cheap.

I would imagine them 1.6Tb discs might be around these shores in 2 years or more.

    安い よ!!

Given that both of the big players in the CPU business are American would have thought they'd launch their stuff at home first, even if a lot of the manufacturing is done in the far east.

Well yeah you are kinda right. Perhaps i should have explained a bit better. What i meant was the ES chips always make their way to china/tiawan before europe or usa.
