Eoin Reddan ends intrigue to stay with Wasps

    By Rob Wildman (Daily Telegraph)

Speculation and intrigue have followed the Ireland camp since the Rugby World Cup, but at least Eoin Reddan, the Wasps scrum-half, cleared up one matter yesterday by announcing that he had decided to stay at the Heineken Cup champions rather than return to play for an Irish province next season.

Reddan, who stopped being Peter Stringer's shadow at Munster three years ago, was the subject of a supposed move to Leinster, but he has decided to negotiate a new deal.

"I'm staying at Wasps," he said. ''Things are working for me so there's no point in breaking something that is fixed. There are some very good clubs in Ireland, but from a personal point of view, whatever is happening is making me play well."

Reddan, 27, will win only his seventh cap on Saturday, when Ireland meet France in Paris, and is a player the critics of Eddie O'Sullivan use to highlight a reluctance to give opportunities to emerging talent.

Ireland's head coach finally gave way at the World Cup when Reddan overtook Stringer after the loss to France.

Reddan enhanced his reputation against Italy when he was voted man of the match. He attributes some of his improvement to the advice he has received at Wasps.

"There are no regrets. I've learnt a lot at Wasps. Shaun Edwards has been brilliant. He was one of the great half-backs in rugby league and he seems to have a knack of bringing things through to union."

He has a point and you can't really blame him. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

Sensible chap...no brainer really, plus I believe Wasps counter offer to Leinsters was quite lucrative..

It's the right call for him i'm sure. He should nail down the Ireland spot too this year.

Understandable considering how some of the Leinster (Especially Willis) were treated this year.

Willis was dropped because he was playing poorly. Something people complain about the national coach not doing. Bringing Easterby in was a bit silly, but I don't particularly rate Keane either. None of them are comparable to Reddan.

It's a shame, but I imagine he got a healthy offer from Wasps and they're a very successful club so you can't blame him.

I thought his proposed move to Leinster could have been good for them but I suppose he felt he had more chance of developing staying with Wasps.

    Best of luck to him.

looks like we will need to look somewhere else for a scrumhalf now, because as it is none of them are good enough, alas another import
