You can get proper dischargers for them but if you're at all tricky with a soldering iron you can make one fairly easily. All they are is a couple of connectors, a big ass bank of resistors and a heat sink.

If your looking for a cheap way of fully discharging you battery, attach an old pc fan to it.. does the trick a treat but might take some time. :D

This place is screaming for a Battery FAQ!
Is there anyone in the know willing to oblige?

I saw a discharger lately in the form/Shape of a grenade where you connected your battery to it which was pretty cool.
Cant remember where I saw it though.

Could someone post the ins and outs of batteries and how they
should be conditioned and discharged etc etc.

I know some need a deep discharge sometimes.

I know some give off heat while charging while others give off heat while
    discharged.

Some have memory effect and some dont.

Some when charged have some 10% 20% 30% efficiancey thing-e-me-bob

And recently the Ni-cd's wont take too kindly to fast charging.

Good idea alright. The post has been moved to the newbie sticky so it doesn't get lost.

If there are any other questions on them I'll do my best to answer them. My formal training is in aviation electronics but this incorporates general electronics so I can field any associated questions if anyone is confused about anything.

You can always hook it up to a car light bulb. But for the sake of a tenner I just bought a guarder discharger the advantage is you get big to small batt connector that comes in useful
