Anyone tried COD4 with the new 5.1 channel headsets available now?

Seems to me like it's the next logical step in realisim.

Looking into them myself. You wouldn't know where's the best place to get them? I tried Komplett with no luck. I may go with scan.co.uk since I got my PC off them no hassel.

I've definitely noticed more people being more sound-aware in CoD4 than in other games. When I try to listen for footsteps in stereo I kinda have to rotate, listen, repeat,...

I think one guy got all of his stuff from overclockers.co.uk and another lives in America so thats of little use to you :P .

Yeah behind Americas Army sound probably plays a huge role in CoD .

Do SCAN deliver to Ireland? The website seems to be set up for UK orders only.

If you want the Medusa 5.1 make sure it's the non-USB Home Edition.
It seems the USB version draws too much power from the USM headder and can causes problems.... The Home Edition has an external amp and allows headset and speakers to be used without switching jacks etc...

Strange. There was an advert on their site a few weeks ago about reduced Ireland delivery rates. Maybe it was just temporary... Here it is - not very specific though. I'd ask again, you might get somebody more knowledgable.

I got my PC 3 weeks ago and paid GB£23.59 +VAT for delivery. There were 2 boxes - a P182 case in one and all the components in another. Delivery was quick once all components were in stock. I asked them through their online query system if they ship to Ireland. A friendly girl emailed back saying yes so I ordered online. Since delivery was only £13.59 I queried again and another girl mailed back saying oops, £10.00 more please. Overall it was still cheaper than anything else so I was still happy. Now the fact I was waiting to order £1,000 worth of components might have helped me. They might not be so keen to ship small orders.

I'm gonna try their online query again...

As for Medusa 5.1's - the Razers seem like the bee knees.

Yeah, the bee's knee's, 8 speakers in each ear, woofers, the damn things vibrate when i fire, and explosions, nearly creamed myself when i first heard it.

Just been quoted £25.30 + VAT for del. So headphones would effectively cost €143. Hmmm... Worth it?

I really want the USB version to work, it's the best solution, less mess and no external amp, but the reviews don't speak well of the USB versions....

I've had the Medusa for nearly two years now and they are great headphones. I found them a bit heavy tho in a long gaming session so I've switched to the Icemat Stereo ones. I play WoW mostly so 5.1 isn't really necessary for me.

However, I know a few people who've had issues with the Medusas - seems more have had issues than haven't. By issues I mean hardware/speaker failures. As I said mine have been fine but if I was buying now I wouldn't based on reliability stories from friends.

    Macros. The walking Medusa advertisement.
He'll forget to mention they break if you breathe on them.

I had to original Medusa 5.1 headphones for approx. 5 years, in the last few months I started to hear a background buzzing, so I was a little bit reluctant to go for another pair, them I remembered that they were nearly 5 years old and for the last three years had also been subject to the attentions of at least one toddler on a daily basis!

I researched the reviews on the gaming sites to find an alternative but ended up coming to the conclusion that the Meduda Home headset wqs the best option. So I ordered it and can confirm that it is a better headset than the original, sound is clearer and pinpointing directions is very simple.

I ordered from this guy as he had the best price without being so cheap as to look dodgy!

    Just contributing my 2c worth.

I bought the Razer 5.1 headset there before Christmas. Had to send them back. Microphone was atrocious and really poorly placed. Also I noticed a distinct hum coming from the headphones when there was no sound, but more worryingly the hum "pulsed" whenever I clicked a button or moved the scroll wheel on my mouse. According to Razer this is a known problem with some systems.

I've switched to the Medusa Speedlink 5.1's and they're fine. The microphone is the most flexible and perfect one I've come across so far.

Did you get the USB version or the Home edition ?

I got the version with the separate amp, which is really handy as I can hook my 5.1 speakers up to it and with the press of a button I can redirect the output from the speakers to the headphones and vice-versa.

I have the 7.1 pc audio and all my other audio sources running into it, I'd love to hear the audio through a good pair of 5.1 phones!
