Do you 'hear'/'pronounce' the words in your head as you read?

I'm pretty sure that I do this all the time but my wife says she has some sort of direct eye to brain transmission process.
    What's normal?

Sorry if this is in the wrong location.

It depends. If I'm reading prose, then it's eye to brain to meaning directly.

But if it is something like the Canterbury Tales and in verse, then I'll repeat the sounds in my head or read it aloud quietly.
