    this april 7 of me mates are thinking heading on trip to San Fransisco drive down to san diego (spend a week there)
    then drive to las vegas spend a few days there.
    it totals at aover 2,000km.
    has anyone ever done this before?
    is this too much travelling.
    i reckon it is
    the guys are talking about stopping along the way but its still too much travelling IMO
    please let me know if any one has done something similar
    we are planning to go on the lash most nites.
    after a long distance flight i dont much fancy clocking up 2,000km on the road
    whats the concensus?
    Is this too far?or would the experience be great craic?

    let me know

    Its only about 1300km from San Fran -> San Diego -> Las Vegas unless you are talking about driving back to San Fran from Vegas at the end? If thats the case do a one way rental and buy a flight from Vegas back to San Fran

    San Fran to San Diego in one day is way too much and if you want to take the scenic tour you want to take route 101 instead of I5 which is gonna add at least 1-2 hours on top of the journey. Suggest you stop north of LA somewhere for the night, then head to san diego the next day.

    101 is not really scenic just a dual caridgeway with some hills around it, highway 1 is the scenic one and is worth spending a couple of days doing that.

    Just back after doing a similar trip over three weeks. Flew to LA and hired a Car to Vegas for 4 night, Then drove to San Fran thorugh the central valley, had wanted to go up through the national parks but closed beacuse of wheather. We took our time so took two half day. Four nights in San Fran and then down highway 1 to LA. Only splent five days doing Hw1 but a great time. Did a sideway trip to the hitching post etc and the vinyards. Then a night in Santa B and two or three nights in LA. Stayed in Santa MOnica which is cool the rest of LA is not so nice. Defo get a Sat Nav or you will be F@#;Ked. The freeways are white knuckle rides. I think if you are starting in San Fran and leaving from LA you would be fine. If you are driving a round trip back to San Fran with San Diego you will send a deal of the holiday driving but if sharing is fine. We used the Sat. NAv driving at night, was fine but no fun. Our trip was around 2500miles, broken up between cities so not bad adn shared so fine. Best part was Hw 1, and really enjoyed the desert drive to Vegas with 'Fear and loathing'rattling around in my head.

    In 2.5 weeks think u would have to fly in and out of Vegas and then car the rest. The drive down HW1 is welll worth it. Stayed in Montaray, Cambria, Beuliton, Los Olives, Santa B, LA, but everyplace is cool. There is a nice loadge hotel in pfizers forest that I would have loved to stay in.

    enjoy

    I am planning a similar trip in april driving from San Fran to San Diego in a week. Is there any need to book any accomadation before we travel. Is there a good choice of places to stay along the coast?
