If you thought driving was a lazy option, HumanCar has come up with a car to get you from A to B and get fit at the same time. The company calls it the Imagine LMV and says it is a hybrid as it uses an electric motor alongside the human effort.

The Imagine LMV works by its occupants rowing levers back and forth in a similar fashion to skiing machines used in gyms. This energy is then stored in batteries that supply the electric motor, so the harder the occupants row the more power there is in reserve.

At the moment, the HumanCar is still very much in the development stages, but the company is already taking deposits based on a $15,000 (£7,500) price tag. It expects to have production models on sale by 2012 and says the imagine LMV will come with satnav, voice-activated Internet and a video chat function.
