Firewire Interface?!

I want to get into some home recording on my laptop and bought an Alesis IO|14 firewire interface. Alesis :: iO|14
I made a bit of a rookie error here because then I noticed my laptop (which is pretty good) dosn't have a Firewire input for some unknown reason! So now i went on ebay and bought a PCMCIA Firewire laptop card.
Will this get the job done and be as good as if there was a Firewire port built into my laptop?

Also dose anyone have any comments on the Alesis IO|14? Anyone got one?

I thought it was a pretty good buy becasuse of the ADAT input for expansion in the future!

Also as it is with four mic pre-amps I can record basic drum tracks (Kick, snare + overheads)

It also comes with Cubase LE! Never used it before any commets?

This is becomming quite an involved post so i'll leave it at that!
    Thanx all!

dunno the alesis thing but looks grand.

the only difference with using the pcmcia card as far as i know is that you'll have to power the unit by adapter, it can't be powered from the firewire connection.

    Congrats.
As long as it doesn't hum when both power inputs are plugged in you should be fine Alesis stuff usually isn't too shabby. Cuebase LE is kinda crap though. Try get Ableton live.
