Ban texting for Lent

    This would

    * improve teenagers romantic relations (see X number of "when to text him/her" threads in PI)
    * improve gf/bf relations (see the rest of the threads in PI)
    * improve traffic (both drivers and pedestrians would start looking where they're going).
    * txtspk would disappear, except on bebo.

I'm sure there's a few more good reasons to ban it. Let's all sign some petition to force all Irish networks to stop allowing texts through for a full 6 weeks - they'd make a bit more money this way too.
C'mon, let Ireland be the first EU nation to ban texts!

    Eh, no.

Some of us need them to keep in contact with friends/family where calling isn't a cheap option.

However, if the ops gave us free offpeak and weekend calls then maybe I'd consider it.

Irish networks promoting a non-text era? Are you insance? And with the economy in precarious enough a situation as it is? Materialistic teenagers, complete ****wits through they may be, do actually keep the economy afloat at times!

What needs to be done is to allow a ten-second window of physical violence on anyone who's phone receives a text mesage in a congested public place (like on a bus/luas). Que 28 Days later footage....

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Also! I don't think the OP understands lent..... lent is for willingly making a sacrifice, not 'banning'.

I suggest boards.ie gives up the OP for lent.

Also, if I hear one more person refer to it as 'length' as in 'Schwerrrrr so Oym givin up deh shmokes for length' there WILL be 28 Days Later footage.

How would they make more money? A text costs the same, or more, than actually making a call but costs the network practically nothing to send it. And they don't have to pay the receiving network anything for passing on the text either so can pocket all the money.

    Dear Vodafone/Metoer/O2,

The following people would like to sign a petition calling on you to ban texting for lent. As a non-denominational, money-hungry bastard capitalist company we are sure that you are swayed by the new-fad opinions of frustrated bloggers. (F.O.O.L Bloggers)
The benefits to your company are no doubt obvious,
    -less profits,
    -less sales
    -less market viability

with such a downturn in your fortunes you may even take this opportunity to lay off most of your staff and dismantale your carcinogenic eye-sore infrastructure that is frankly, making the moo-cows sick and ruining my weetabix in the mornings.
We would like to take this opportunity to blame your company personally and libelously for the following social problems.
    -Car accidents
    -Marraige infidelity and relationship breakdown
-The decline of the educational system and the natural progression of such degregation to the entertainment circuit in the form of reality TV.

I have hand delivered this petition and your doorman has assured me that you will take this petition seriously and issue a decree effictively outlawing the use of text messages and anyone caught doing so during the sacred lenten fast will be whipped and forced to carry a 2X4 up Cavalry Hill, Co. Roscommon. He also informs me that your executives are currently unavailable as they are having a bath in (our) money. They'd better enjoy it while it lasts- less of that now when the texts go.

    Yours most insincerely.

    A.Tool.

God think I may actually try do this. My life think would actually be so much better without texting! shame it's the main form of communication these days..
There is some strange thing that happens my otherwise quite rational and reasonable brain when I'm in any way wound up about anything and have my phone to hand. It's actually ruined things on me on more than a few occassions. No self restraint when it comes to the things at all!

What has it not got to do with it?

Its called 'pronunciation'. Both words are pronounced differently.

Did you seriously only post in this thread to raise that issue?
