Redundancy Advice

    Hi,
Unfortunately i received news recently that the company i work for will be closing down within the next 2 years. I have a couple of questions that i hope the good folk here could give me some advice on or point me in the right direction!

    1) Advice on redundancy packages from Independant source
Approx 1/3 of the staff are not members of a union so we will not be formally at the "negotiation table". We would like to get in contact with somebody that can advise us on redundancy matters. Has anyone recommendations on this? We are willing to pay suitably experienced person for their services.
e.g Someone that can advise us on what we should be looking for in our package as unions needs will slightly differ from ours.

    2) Current redundancy deals for large multinational pharma companies
Anyone here know what kind of packages (weeks/year working, retainers etc) are being offered for pharmas at the moment. I know it will vary but it would be great to get an idea of what would be acceptable /fair.

    Thanks

Dude, pop into Siptu, or ring them on one of the number from here: http://www.siptu.ie/AboutSIPTU/ContactSIPTU/

You wouldnt happen to be one of the unlucky people from Allergan?

I doubt they'll mind giving you advice.

When we had redundancies in the IT company I worked for last year, we contacted SIPTU to see if they could advise us or if they could recommend someone we could hire to advise us, but they told us point blank that it was "members only" and that was that !!

The going rate for pharmas(the good ones anyway) at the moment is approx 6weeks per year of service + statutory...all companies nowadays will cap the max amount of the exgratia part of the payout to something like 104 weeks. So someone mightnt get recognition for any service over 17 years.

This is what the union workers are getting so I presume that any non-union would get the same as to not do so could be seen to be discriminatory.

Thanks for the replies. Do you know if retainers were part of these packages and if so at what rate?

****, but I'm not overly surprised. OP: get everyone to join SIPTU, and then go back in next day to let them know:D

Sorry, have no idea about retainers. Not many of us boys "on the shop floor" were on retainers.:)
