    Hi,

I was looking to fly to Newcastle on the 28th March and make a Sunderland game on the Saturday.
To fly direct looks like the best part of €280 quid.

I was looking at the much cheaper option of flying to Durham and then a train/bus/taxi to Newcastle.

    Has anyone done this before?
How did you get from Durham->Newcastle?

Should I just cough up the 280 quid?

    Thanks

There is actually a train station at the Airport but in their wisdom they re-built the terminal on the other side of the runway so it is now useless for air connections and only has a skeleton service. Joined-up thinking and all that.

There is a bus (AFAIR it is free to air passengers) that links the airport to Darlington town centre and rail station, from there you can get trains to Newcastle and Sunderland.

Trains from Darlington - Newcastle are frequent (up to 6 per hour) and take 30-40mns, The fare is £7.10 one way and there is no need (or discount) to book in advance, there are only single and day return fares so you would need to buy two singles.

edit: here is the bus connection, it is only hourly so you should check to see if it is any good for the flight times. Make sure to leave plenty of time to make the return flight, you know what Ryanair is like with their check-in times.

check here for the train times.

Thanks a million John R....very help indeed.
I'll have a proper look when I get home and see if the various times given suit the flights etc.

    Cheers again.
