'...Even more than their boundless energy, what makes The Hot 8 special are the sounds they coax from their well-loved, well-worn horns. Listen to the magical harmonies and the magical, sweet tones that make it impossible to mistake this band for any other'

We trust we will see you at this show. Some of you may be aware of the incredible 'Sexual Healing' track which was blasted by every DJ under the sun for the last 18 months, especially at the festivals in 2007. If not, let us introduce to you Louisiana's most prized second-line marching band and they are coming to Dublin on February 28th for an exclusive live show courtesy of Choice Cuts.

The Hot 8 Brass Band is a New Orleans based brass band that blends hip-hop, jazz and funk styles with traditional New Orleans brass sounds. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the Hot 8 Brass Band was propelled to wider prominence globally by an appearance in Spike Lee's 2006 documentary 'When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts'. Because of this appearance, "A new legion of fans caught onto the band's mix of traditional marching music, hip hop, and R&B." The band has also been mentioned in the media because of the deaths of three of its members through handgun violence.

In New Orleans, the Hot 8 Brass Band provides music for traditional jazz funerals in which a procession is led through the streets to the grave. The Hot 8 Brass Band has been central to New Orleans street music for over a decade. Founded by Bennie Pete in 1995, the band has played in traditional Second Line parades--hosted each Sunday afternoon by a Social Aid and Pleasure Club--ever since. The Hot 8 are famous for playing all day in the sun, then hopping to a club gig and playing through the night. But even more than their boundless energy, what makes the Hot 8 special are the sounds they coax from their well-loved, well-worn horns.

The Hot 8 have been the featured band in an important relief project following Hurricane Katrina and the devastation wrought upon New Orleans. SAVE OUR BRASS! is a local grass-roots project that has brought music to evacuee shelters, temporary trailer parks, and communities that have reached out to New Orleanians. As a result, the Hot 8 Brass Band has been featured on CNN, Nightline, and WDSU-TV (New Orleans) and in the New York Times.
The first US signing to Tru Thoughts is this authentic New Orleans brass band. The real deal, walking the streets of New Orleans and playing their tunes. They are something special!!!

Sexual Healing was one of the most eagerly awaited singles of Tru Thoughts existence. Tru Thoughts have been inundated with thousands of enquiries about this track. This energetic big brass version of the Marvin Gaye classic was previously released on a small label in New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina. After the hurricane the label never fully recovered and the track was pushed underground until it was brought to the attention of Tru Thoughts A&R Robert Luis when Quantic started dropping it in his DJ sets.

2007 saw people and DJ' swapping CDRs and MP3s to get hold of the track, it has received a remarkable response from DJs such as Gilles Peterson, Rob Da Bank and Coldcut getting in touch with Tru Thoughts eager to get hold of their own copy for their DJ sets. Hurricane Katrina in 2005 broke a lot of boundaries between generations and class divides. This is apparent in the sound of The Hot 8 who bring elements of modern, traditional and urban music together and create a unique, new class of brass music. The band embodies the hip hop culture and energy in the New Orleans music scene for example, they are involved in local second-line parades. These are music battles or face-offs with local jazz bands on the streets. Brass bands fight it out for the largest crowd listening to their music, the one with the most feet at the end wins. This is credible music for so many reasons....you have been warned!

A must for fans of Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Youngblood Brass Band, The Dirty Dozen etc. etc.
