    Hi,
I'm really into theatre, and would love to join a theatre group, but one that does musicals such as Rent etc.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    In the Dublin area?

Is proper training needed for Broadway?

    Hiya

You won't find a group that does any of the current hits as the amateur rights simply aren't available. Ireland however has loads of musical societies who put on some of the hundreds of available shows. Check out www.aims.ie to see what's going on. You may be a little late for shows for the spring season though.

As regards Broadway, thousands train and dream of making it there and don't but then there are some freak cases where people get a break without training. These days American Idol has been the path for more than a handful of Broadway stars.

If you're serious about musical theatre, the only course here is at Bull Alley in the Liberties. Other than that you'd have to head to the UK where GSA and Mountview are the top two colleges for MT graduates.
