Can anybody help settle a bet made in the pub on Saturday afternoon?

Does the TV official have sight of any additional/different camera-angles to those which are available to the broadcasters?

    Cheers

As far as I know no..

When you are sitting there looking at 20 different angles being played over and over, its him calling them [so I understand].

Nope you see what he sees during a judgement AFAIK.

From what I've heard. He has all the same camera angles, as the TV. But what you see on TV, is not nessasarily what he sees.
He can pause, rewind etc, as he pleases. What you see on TV, is just the TV editors showing it.

TV Official has all the angles that the actual TV have available to them and visa versa, but of course the TV will only show the best ones for general play or whatever. Take for example Formula 1, there in only one view during the race at anyone time. RTL2, ITV, and whoever else show the race take the feed thats given to them from the track TV control room. Same situation with the TV Match Official he has about 40 available camera angles to him, but whats the point in showing the angle of the Irish try line when the game is down in Italian 22, RTE will choose to show where the game is at.

He has all the cameras we see and maybe one or two more.

The funny thing is that he sees alot more. Let me explain with example below.

The England try that was not allowed in the RWC final went to TV official for ages. To us the foot never actually went into touch (have looked many time and it never does!). What actually happened is that the game is filmed digitally and we see 24 frames per second on TV as thats the speed used everywhere. The TV official can actually get alot more frames per second by collecting all the digital data.
We saw just before the leg went into touch and after the leg went into touch. The TV official had the technology to see in between them frames and saw the player in touch.

Its all about streaming the data. Long way from players jumping on top of the ball so ref couldnt see the ball down :D

Its interesting that the TV official has this very good technology
