Got caught on Ebay!

After tens of transactions, I got caught on ebay. Now the item wasn't expensive, only €30, but still better in my account than in the scammers.

I paid through Paypal and have lodged a claim with them and I've also emailed ebay to see if they know where I should go but I'm just too impatient!

Does anyone know whether it will be possible or not to retrieve this money or not?

    Wait for the Paypal claim.

Agree with this, I had to use it once. You just have to wait a few days. Sit back and relax.

Make sure you are entirely satisfied before closing the dispute with eBay as you cannot re-open it once you settle. I found this out the hard way when I bought fake Gillette Power Fusion blades from the seller electronic-import-store on eBay. He sent me nothing and ignored my emails. I opened a dispute with Paypal and only then did he send the blades. When I got them, I gave them the once over and closed the dispute. However, closer examination revealed that the blades were in fact counterfeit - and I cannot re-open the dispute with Paypal! Naturally, the seller is ignoring my emails and I am out of pocket by €60.

You just have to play the waiting game. I sold an ipod video on ebay and it got lost in the post, or stolen by the postman. I only sent it recorded and not special delivery so it was only insured for 30quid.

I had to pay a full refund as the guy paid through paypal. If i refused to pay (which i didnt) then any fund going into my account after that point would have been placed into a refund bank if you will. So once it amouted to the sum i owed he would have automatically gotten a refund.

All this is academic if the seller can produce proof of recipt of parcel.

An Post's registered post gives 320 euro insurance in Ireland and UK. For an additional 4 euro you get up to 1500 covered. Unless you're in the UK, in which case you'd be on Royal Mail's insurance rates, which I believe are much lower.

Ok, so what did I find on my doorstep at 6.30 this morning, but my parcel which I ordered on Ebay!

Now I had written this package off seeing as a matter of hours after I paid, through Paypal, I received an email from Ebay tellling me that the sellers account was being used fradulently and without the owner permission. Hence, I opened a claim on Paypal and am awaiting a response.

Now the items I received are quite obviously fake but still pretty cheap as it goes.

Now I'm in a quandram as to whether I should close the Paypal dispute or not! The items are quite obviously fake but I did receive them!

    What should I do?

Usual process would be to inform PayPal that the items received are counterfeit. You should do this soon as the seller most likely has valid tracking showing you received your item and if you do not confirm with PayPal that the item is fake the claim will be closed in seller favour.

You will have to verify to PayPal that the item you got is fake but once that has been done you can get a refund from the seller.

The items are MAC eye shadows, and while they do look quite good, a quick comparison with the real thing proves they're not real!

How do I go about proving this to Paypal, this might end up being more hassle than it's worth!

Was there a tracking number on the parcel? If there isn't, then there's no way to show you0 have received it. Since they are fake you could just keep/bin them, and wait for the Paypal claim to go through. If you inform them, then the process changes, and you may have to return the items to the seller, at your cost, or otherwise prove the item is fake.

The choice, as they say, is yours.

PayPal itself won't ask you to return what could be potentially counterfeit goods, instead you would need to obtain a report from somewhere qualified in the area of the item (anywhere that sells it pretty much) that confirms the item is indeed counterfeit. That has to be faxed to PayPal then.

Tip: Always note it in your auction page that once the item is posted it is the responsibility of the buyer. This way you avoid allot of the refunds. If paypal receive a dispute for non-receipt then you just send them the receipt you got from the post office for sending the goods and the item # for eBay and you should have no problems. There are scammers out there that buy items from ebay for a living. ie. they buy an item, say they never got it and get a refund. Then you see the item you just sold back on ebay a few weeks later. My guess is the buyer got the item and a refund!

But if the buyer needs to sign for the item and hasnt, then he never recieved the item. Thats why everyone should you recorded post at least. Therefore they have proof the item was never delivered as the item was never signed for.
