will it happen does anyone think by then?
already they need 20million over the proposed budget

The most senior official at the Department of Transport has said an integrated ticketing system for public transport is being developed as quickly as possible.

Secretary-General Julie O'Neil has said she is personally monitoring progress and said the system will be in place by September of next year.

The budget has been set at €50m - however it was originally capped at €30m in 2002.

Conor Faughnan from the AA has said Ireland's ambitions for integrated ticketing are in "a shambles".

Bout bloody time. Having to pay to switch busses because they don't have enough routes is a f*ckin joke

They're not going to fix that AFAIK it's not really going to be integrated fares - just a smart card payment system. If you're dreaming of an actual integrated system like TfL, or the BVG system in Berlin, you may keep dreaming.

It is this pathetic excuse for "Integrated Ticketing" that they've been screwing around with since 2002 but haven't really managed to DO just yet.

Definitely something going on here at the Top

Departmental Secretary Generals are a VERY reticent bred indeed and rarely,if ever, can be seen or heard independently of "Their" Minister.

Ms O Neill has already had a somewhat fraught couple of months where it appears she was staging a solo run in Departmental Policy terms by failing to keep "her" man informed on the Aer Lingus Shannon issue.
In addition she has had to reveal quite a bit of herself at sittings of Dail Committee`s,usually attempting to pacify pesky Depittee`s asking arkward questions about the whereabouts of several MILLION euro`s allocated to this crazy scheme.

Since taking over the reins of the Department of Transport,Julie`s profile has indeed been high, but for all the wrong reasons which raises some rather disquieting questions about the entire management of the place.

Only last month we had some of her officers reveal to yet another Dail Committee sitting, that the Department had no idea how many unlicenced Bus Operators were merrrily buzzing around the country as the blighters won`t tell the Department they dont have Licences...! What sauce eh ??? :o

The only explaination I can come up with is that Ms O Neill is considering a career in Politics...perhaps as a PD candidate ????

Strange times indeed as Dr Winston O Boogie once wrote on a prescription.... :)

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

The DoT told me late last year that it was due late August 2009... that's already moved to Setember 2009!

Then again, they did also say: “The Integrated Ticketing Project Board has recently advised the Department that the integrated ticketing project is on schedule and within budget”.
