    Hi Guys,

I am really hoping that you can help me. I moved into my existing house about a year ago and we are now in a position to do some upgrades to the house. We are getting the whole house painted and decorated so now is the time to cable up the house for audio and video.

What i want is audio in the sitting room, dining room, kitchen and main bedroom and office. I am thinking of using the sonos system and putting in wall speakers or in ceiling speakers.

Can you let me know were to start, budget is open at the moment. The main thing is when it is all finished I want zero cabling on show.

I am also thinking that controllable lighting would be nice in some of the rooms.

What would I be looking at to get a sparks in to run all the cabling or would I be better of getting all the work done by a home cinema specialist.

    Cheers

    Hey TCP...

Are you thinking of doing the work by yourself??...Wouldn't advise it, its a very messy job unless you have been cabling networks for a while??

Have a look at www.smarthomes.ie. These guys are pro's.

for the majority of the multiroom systems, its done over cat5 cable. so get cat5 run to every room and back to a control point.

then get speaker cable run to the speaker points and back to where the controller will go in each room.

Depends on what you go for really...ifs its just cabling it wont cost an arm and a leg, though if you looking at the actual wall control panels, speakers etc. Could be anything from 10k - 20k...

    Hi TCP/IP,

Just wondering why you are choosing sonos for your music system?
As you have the opportunity to re wire, you could choose a wired system over a wireless one.
The sonos is mainly sold as a wireless retro fit system for people who want multi room music but without wires. It does that very well but has it's drawbacks.
It does internet radio but does not support a LOT of the irish stations. RTE1, RTE2, Lyric, to name a few. That might not bother you but if you like listening to the radio then maybe sonos is not the right product?
How many zones of audio do you plan to have?
What kind of feedback do you want in each zone? Would you like to be able to see names of radio stations, album art etc? like sonos?
Do you want to switch audio and video in those zones also via the one system?
What type of lighting control are you looking for? One main zone with several circuits or whole house control?

Sorry lots of questions I know, but the more information you can give us the better solution we can try and find for you.

    Thanks Industria for the reply.

Went for the SONOS system becasue of the great reviews and feedback on the system. I am going to use it wired but at least in the future a extra zone can be added very easily. I want station names and complete ease of use for the wife. I have spoken to smart homes this morning and they are coming out tomorrow to site survey the house. I want about five to six zones in the house. Internet radio is not a high priority but sure will give it a go. The main thing for me is ease of use and neatness.
