60 Hz monitor - help

Looking to hook X360 up to a pc monitor. Already done and 50 hz games run like a dream. Having a problem with the 60 Hz games. VGA converter will transmit up to 75 hz but old dell monitor won't go higher than 50 hz.

Thinking about buying a new monitor that can def cope with 60 hz games. However, second opinion required in case am missing something glaringly obvious as to why this might not work.

Maybe I'm just missing something on the dell monitor that can make it take 60 hz? Anyone come across a similar problem?

btw converter is not the problem

Also if anyone is in the market for a monitor or has an advice on setting up a dual-monitor system, would appreciate any responses.
