MSN Messenger keeps disconnecting.

Just got a Nokia 6120 on 3 with Skype and MSN Messenger during the week and Messenger keeps disconnecting making it a complete waste of time.

Even leaving the phone in a position where it has full 3.5G reception Messenger keeps dropping out. (Not sure of the timeframe but seems to do it after 10-15 mins.)

Is this normal? Any solutions, before I dropkick the phone?

    Cheers

    D-M.

Bring it back for an exchange, I can leave mine for a couple of hours and it stays connected

Its not you phone mate its 3 MSN is very unreliable always disconnecting messages not being received showing people online who are not etc. I called them about this but they did nothing about it surprise surprise.

bit off topic but strangely enough msn has the same issues with their data modem disconnecting and showing online after it has disconnected etc

if the same thing is happening with their modem it might be an IP related issue. I would say to them that if the issue isn't sorted out then you will be using an alternative application such as 'Slick' and you will not be paying data charges for same.

Cheers folks, thanks for the feedback. Think I'll go back to the Three shop and tell them I'm giving the phone back under the 14 day money back guarantee. Should be funny at least to see them puffing and panting as they try to explain, that, that's only for the modems...:D Worth a try I guess, there's always the small claims court after that...

Skype's been dire today too, messages like "no network coverage" even with a strong signal showing and "invalid session" when I try to sign in. Then "searching for contacts" for minutes on end. I've hardly been able to use Skpe all day

BTW for anyone considering the Nokia 6120 take note that the battery life is dreadful, needs a charge every night and that's not with many calls being made!

with 3 you can bring back the phones within 14 days too and don't let them tell you otherwise

    Cheers, thanks for that.

BTW is there any difference in choosing 3 or 3MMS as the access point for Messenger?

Last night hit a new low in my Messenger saga when I couldn't log in at all! The "verifying username and password" page just sat there forever. Tried repeatedly from 6pm to 10pm with no success. Tried turning off and on the phone etc. but the same problem all the time.

Then I thought all was about to be forgiven when I found this workaround to allow use of Skypeout, but alas it can only be fully used with a "Skypephone" which has Skypechat, which the Nokia doesn't. (Looks pretty clunky in any case but probably worth it if you make a lot of International calls.)

Also despite only making/receiving 6 short calls all day, the battery died today after just 8 hours! (Did have Skype logged in and Bluetooth running all day granted, but 8 hours is just plain miserable.)

Then after recharging it it took me 15 mins to sign in to Skype.

Life's too short, everything is going back in the box and it's off back to the shop with it.

If your thinking about getting a Skype enabled 3 phone, don't be a fool like me and be taken in by the advertising promising "Free calls and messaging" and the beaut on the cover of the 3 brochure. Run, run a mile and don't look back!

Brought the phone back to the shop yesterday (less than a week after purchase) and they would not give me a refund without there being a "verifyable fault" with the phone!

Can anyone offer any advice on this?

    Cheers
