What's the best part of Sydney to start if you're looking to meet people?

I'm planning to do the backpacker thing round the world by myself, starting in Sydney. I've been reading Hostel reviews, trying to narrow down the best place to start. What is the best part of Sydney to go if you're looking to meet people to travel with. I'm 24, am I too old, what would be best for me?

    No your not too old.

Bondi Beach or Coogee Beach would be the best spots for me as they are both full of backpackers, and beside the beach and very active areas. etc. Personally I would pick Coogee Beach area, there is a hostel called. Wizard Of OZ that would be a good place to start.

King Cross is the other backpacker area, more popular with the English. However it is closer to the city, and a bit sleazey in my opinon.
