The answer to this query is probably staring me in the face but here goes anyway!

A friend of mine has bought a new PC and as rung me to say the @ symbol is over the number 2 and the " symbol over the @ (if you know hat I mean).

I thought it might be the regional and language settings but her machine is set to the same as mine - English -Irish. Any ideas?

Mods- feel free to move if i'm in the wrong area.

I'm not sure where you checked but thats definitely the keyboard input language settings.

If its XP go to Control Panel - Regional and Language Options - Details

In there make sure your "default input language" is set to English (Ireland) - Irish
In the "Installed services" section make sure that you only have English (Ireland - Keyboard Irish)

If its vista it should be similar but I'm not at home so can't check for you.

Is it that the @ symbol is actually printed on the 2 key?

    Thanks for replies guys.

My friends Pc is running XP pro. I checked with her yesterday and the region setting is the same as my pc Engish (Ireland). Will recheck with her later this evening.

When she holds the the uppercase key and press the @ symbol it results in " on the screen. The keyboard is printed correctly.

Her keyboard isn't set to Irish layout like Conar said, it's fairly easy to fix. She needs to find the keyboard layout dialog. Should be control panel> localization> keyboard. Can't recall exactly.
