Recently got me stash for upgrading my PC from Hardwareversand. Got the following IDE to SATA converter cable for channelling my IDE booting hard drive to a SATA connection on the motherboard.

The problem is that when booting up my pc cannot find the operating system, this would suggest that it can't find the hard drive, which would suggest the converter is not working!

Any advise out there guys? Thanks.

Did you give power to the IDE drive aswell as using the converter? I do know these converters can be quite difficult to get working though, also make sure the SATA cable is plugged into SATA1 port on mobo, could also make a difference, although either way you should see it at POST

YO! yoyo, the converter has power along with the IDE drive. Tried all the SATA ports(4) but no joy. I'll recheck the power cable again but i have my doubts.

Rechecked the power cable, that seems ok. I can hear the hard drive spinning so it must be getting power i guess. If i can't get this working what are my other options?

Have you tried plugging in just the hard disk into the IDE port you have and see if it boots up?, ohh another thing, what jumper setting are you using on the IDE drive? Maybe try setting it to cable select, just might work

Yup tried the hard disk in the IDE port and its booting ok. Tried cable select as well and no joy as well. Also tried the converter it on the DVD drive and it can't find it either. Not sure what else to try. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH......drink!

My guess is the converter yokey isn't working , is your DVD Burner SATA? Could you not just have the drive on its own IDE, and the rest SATA? If your burners IDE its not great sharing optical drive and hard drive on one cable, alternative could be buying a IDE controller PCI card which imo are better than those converter thingys, should do ok for you

Agreed, it seems to be the converter alright. My DVD Burner is IDE al well ya see and there is only one IDE port on the mo'board. Any links for one of those IDE controllers yoyo? Now to try and get my loot from Hardwareversand for the converter!

This could also work but I can't confirm (May require you set up drives in a RAID array)

Most mobos only come with one IDE port now coz everythings becoming SATA, so thats normal, I'd try a IDE controller, or a even safer thing to do is get a new SATA Burner and only keep the IDE for the hard drive (TBH I'd go this route in case you have driver issiues with the IDE controller cards... It does work for you booting off this way so..)

Has anyone found what the problem is? I have a simillar problem, i got a IDE HDD to SATA HDD to IDE Converter Adapter from ebay and hooked it up, i connected my IDE HDD to an SATA port and no joy. i have 3 IDE HDD and only 1 port, i have a ribbon cable that hooks 2 HDD to the MOBO, and that leave me with a spare HDD. Anyone know of another way to connect me other IDE HDD???

That is exactly what i have, but i want it to work the other way around, i plug that adapter into my IDE HDD and then connect it to my Mobo via SATA1 or 2. this doesn't work for me. hope it does for you

It didnt work for me either. There may be a response solving the issue in the thread I posted. But seeing as a mod got rid of it for reasons unknown, we will never know.

I ended up going with a USB external caddy.

Maybe you should check your back threads before you say that, it was not deleted or locked but slipped away without anyone replying to it.

do yeah , i am using it on an old dell l933r i have here that had 20 gb ide hd, and i installed a 250gb sata hd in its place and as i said it works a treat

I got my converter ( a second 1) and its not doing the job that i want it to do. It looks like this adapter plugs in to the IDE slot in the motherboard and then u have an extra SATA slot.

Again, anyone have any idea how i can hook up a IDE harddrive to a SATA in the motherboard.
