I bought a psp video out composite cable recently only to find out that it displays in black and white on my tv. After a bit of research i realise that the psp outputs in NTSC format even in PAL territories!! How stupid is that?!

Ok i realise that modern flatscreens can take NTSC but come on. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? Has anyone managed to get colour output on a regular CRT tv with composite connection?

your tv must be very bloody old

i was under the impression that pretty much any tv manufactured in the last decade could comfortably handle ntsc signals and full screen 60hz video

I dont think its that old?! Well, i dont own it so i'm not sure. But i still think its ridiculous to release an NTSC product in a PAL territory. They may as well release a power charger with a two-pin socket and make us buy a US connector!

TV's that don't do NTSC are as rare as a competent politician. Upgrade your tv.

ah in this day and age theres not really a definition between pal and ntsc territories any more, they all work with each other in the majority of cases (obviously not in yours, but thats just chronically unfortunate)

Long shot here but is there a setting to switch the format output?

On the psp, no. Not on the tv either. I guess sony's plan of forcing people to buy new tv's is working!

What make, model TV is it? Suprised to hear it doesn't support NTSC, PAL60?
You couldn't even use the TV with 360 as all its games as PAL60.

And Sony is not forcing you to buy new TV, there hasn't been a TV on the market in the last decade that supports PAL60, NTSC.

Indeed, Sony could at least created a PAL60 mode. It's exactly like NTSC but with PAL color encoding. It's very unlikely that Sony can't do this on the PSP, unlike creating a PAL50 signal. My guess is that they are being lazy d1cks.
I was also very excited with the TV out of the Slim, even if unable to output games with a interlaced signal. It would still be great as a multimedia machine for travels and stuff... thing is, i only have access to 2 TVs that are NTSC capable, none of wich are available at regulars nor where i usually go on vacation. Major bummer! I'll have to keep on bringing a bulkier PS2 or whatever with me...

NTSC is not the same as PAL60, all TVs with composite in that i have access to support PAL60, unlike NTSC which only 2 are able to display, one of which is a somewhat expensive telly (750€ 2 years ago) so that was to be expected.
This could be avoided if Sony created a Scart RGB cable and option. Not only it would make it possible to display a colored picture on pretty much any PAL60 capable telly, it would provide a picture quality comparable to the component lead.
OR at least give us a PAL60 option... i bet it's just a couple lines of code on the XMB...

It will look like this if ur telly doesn't have a Zoom function. The PSP outputs at 480p, the PSP viewable picture itself is 272 pixels tall, the rest is made with black (hence the massive black borders). If it does then u'll see way smaller borders. If you're using a SDTV, then you won't be able to play anything on it.

LOL cant see the picture! i didnt know you needed a high-def telly, that sucks.
