Vodafone Broadband/Dell

Does anyone know of a conflict between Vodafone broadband usb modems and Dell laptops? I'm asking this because I'm aware of two, previously trouble free Dell laptops, which have died shortly after connecting to Vodafone.

Shouldn't be any conflict at all, the Vodafone modems are the same as the O2 ones just rebranded, they both use exact same connection interface too. I'd say it was an extreme co-incidence that the laptops died shortly after using vodafone boradband modems....

I can't see how a usb modem could kill a laptop.

When I did a quick Google I discovered that Dells have issues with some usb devices ( to do with partitions), don't ask me to elaborate, I wouldn't be very techy. That's why I thought of the modems, as they were the only recently connected items in both cases.
