I have a Gibson SG Special and the output is pretty dull, like the tone is way down. Anybody suggest a replacement Humbucker??

Seymour Duncan JB is a popular one around here, and I've nothing bad to say about it at all, extremely well rounded pickup that's good for most styles.

Yeah, I'm looking for something with a bit of bite. I bought a Fender Highway(?) with a humbucker and it's so sharp, Van Halen like. And now the gibson is being neglected..

The JB definitely has a fair bit of bite, but if you want more of a Van Halen kind of thing, then maybe a DiMarzio Super Distortion would be up your alley?

    Thanks, I'll look them up.

I have never bought anything from these guys, but prices are good.

Maybe try rasing the pickup a little to see if thats whats ailing your sound?
As for what pickup. The JB is a nice one alright. Most duncans I've tried gave a decent sound. I've seen loads of people raving about Bareknuckle too so they might be worth trying out.

Standard Seymour Duncans are probably SH-4 for bridge and SH-1 or SH-2 for the neck.....but there are others that will be good.....Pearly Gates etc.

I have Seymour Duncan SH-6 in the bridge end of my Edwards ESP JS Les Paul and it gives off a lot of feedback for some reason.

get thyself to the seymour duncan forums
its excellent and is not just SD only

although i have never used one
some people think the JB is very nasal and icepick like

    what music do you play

a really popular set on the duncan forums
is a pearly gates neck and a custom bridge (sh5 i think)

i got a set of gfs 59 buckers and a fat paf job and am well happy for the bucks, they really sing, i did J page wiring on them and they split well
(i am not going to compare them to duncan, because Ive only ever had
duncan design in an ibanez sz)

I stuck a set of tonerider alnico IV PAF's in my SG special, just to see if they'd shake that dull sound your describing, and they definitely did that. The pickups are **** all money and they sound quite amazing, and not just for the price, i mean in comparison to alot of other pickups i've heard. Apart from some wiring issues that i've now resolved the things really scream. I'm happy anyway.

I would recommend a bareknuckle nailbomb, really big output and is good clean and unreal when its distorted. They're a bit expensive but I think they're worth it. I have one of them in the bridge of my PRS and its legend.
