ive been looking around for an external media player hard drive.......but do you think this would be better??

seems it's a bit buggy, and netgear haven't fixed problems that they know the unit has had since it was released over a year ago
still good price for a wireless media player

what sort of a connection would you need on your tv to be able to play music/movies from this device?
Are there any others that people would recommend?

Does this box play the files for you or do you have to play the files on your PC and then stream to your TV?

A computer with wireless and your films/music loaded on it (computer needs to be on).
Or you can plug in a USB hard disk and run files from it.

It plays the films, it can play them from USB/NAS etc.

    Which Pcworld Col.

Actually i meant the Netgear EVA700.
Would be very surprised if PCW had one with similar specs for €40......

I will be happy with the Netgear one i think (Have all netgear stuff at the moment and very happy).

Did anyone order one of these too? I just received my two units. Fifteen minutes after the courrier dropped them here it was wired and getting a firmware update. Started playing movies, music (from network & Internet radio) and photos and I am quite pleased. Video quality is really good (at good as my HTPC). Sound quality is good also, but it has limited playlist functionality as an audio player (though I could sort that out on the TVersity server).
Slideshows are OK, but not too keen on how it handles the colours - may need some adjustments, but I really bought this to handle videos, and it does that really well.
My 8 year old has already mastered the menu navigation to find his favourites.

Note: my experience is based on wired ethernet connection and TVersity on the server instead of the standard software that comes with the box. Overall I give it an 8 out of 10 as a video streaming client, leaving some space for GUI improvements.

the offer lasts for one day only
if you see something you like
    buy it straight away
many items particularly ipods sell out very quickly

I got mine yesterday. Seems to work fine with the wired connection, using both tversity and the microsoft connect software, but couldn't get it to see my pc with the wireless link. I can listen to the internet radio feeds with the wireless so I'm on the network, but doesn't see the media server. Video quality seems very good, nice that it plays from the usb port, but would be interested to hear if anybody gets it to work easily over wireless

Btw unit did stop responding once or twice after start up when I didn't hit the enter button quick enough

Got the wireless working on vista with TVersity as the server. TVersity has a setting in the options especially for the EVA700. Other than that, i just made sure the firewall and router had the appropriate port open.

Very happy with this piece of kit so far.

Does it stream movies ok (with wireless) ?
Does it come with TVersity s/w or do you just d/load that separately , do you need to install the s/w that the unit comes with.....sorry bout all the questions !

tversity is something you download. The software it comes with it is a microsoft program which does the same thing (shares folders) (you can run both services at the same time and both appear in the menu). tversity though will transcode file types not natively supported by the unit, so it plays back more formats like flac or youtube videos. Would also like to know about the wireless performance, must try get it to get the wireless to work
