How to fix this - Whitehall

I get the bus from Santry to City and this junction holds me up for approx. 10 mins every day (!)

I know as I have timed it - one day it was 12.5 mins.

There is promise of some work to be done to help the buses through but what it is, I don't know yet.

I have already bought a scooter to avoid this, how could the problem be solved?

I attach a photo for ideas and suggestions.

We could build a tunnel .....

The N1 south of the junction is being widened using the port tunnel construction site, whether this will speed up your bus journey or not though is anybody's guess.

In that case, it's a pity they didn't excavate an underpass while they were building the tunnel. Ah well.

Every single day there's a queue of cars blocking the bus lane on the N1 before Collins Avenue. If you're stuck in it, ring the traffic centre and whinge until the gardai come out. There's a perfectly serviceable bus lane there but that never bother to enforce. Hell, for over a year they didn't even bother to put the proper signs on it.

If you want a discussion on infrastructure, the best option is to put traffic lights at the end of the bus lane but controlling the car lanes to the right. When the lights at Collins Ave go red, change the upstream lights too, allowing the buses to nip into the correct lane (straight ahead for 16a/41 and right for 103) without being blocked by cars. All the lights go green allowing the buses to cross the junction in front of the cars. Also (I think they're doing this) bring the start of the bus lane back to the start of the road instead of 100m forward. Whoever came up with that genius idea needs a solid kicking.
