Buy now or wait until HD war is over

Hmm thinking about buying a laptop but it's really a bad time to buy now, should really wait till the HD war is over and the winner is the standard drive in a laptop. Not much point in buying a laptop with a dvd drive as it's on it's way out, what do you think

If your main use for the drive is to watch HD movies, then you might want to wait. However, for pure data handling I doubt any of those formats will become mainstream for a while.

How often do you plan to watch blu-rays or hd-dvds on your laptop. I only ever use my dvd drive when I'm burning a dvd or cd or reading stuff someone burned onto a dvd or cd for me.

I'd say the war is all but won already, blu-ray gets the spoils it would seem...but if you want to wait a bit longer to play it safe then do so!

How do you know when the war will be over? You could be waiting a year or two.

On a related note: speaking from experience, don't watch comedies on your laptop on the train. And certainly don't burst out laughing every couple of minutes. Your fellow passengers will get nervous. I had a carriage full of fellow passengers very nervous on the train yesterday morning and evening, without realising it. :D

The war is over and BluRay has won, but most laptops I have seen have HD DVD drives... Just get a laptop with a standard DVD drive, who needs "HD" On a 15" laptop screen?!

Most of all the hollywood studios have one with blueray. I agree with conzymaher.
