I recently had a problem with a windows update that caused a boot file to become corrupt. To fix it I had to reinstall windows.

I didn't have windows XP home disk anymore so I installed the XP pro version,

The problem now is that the max res can't go past 1024x768

How can I fix this. THe scree ncould only go slightly higher, but it made a huge difference

What graphics card do you have?
You probably have to reinstall the drivers for it to go higher.

    Nvidia Video Cards: www.nvidia.com
    ATI Video Cards: www.ati.amd.com
    Intel Video Cards: www.intel.com

To find out what card you have and series, go to display screen where you can change resolution, you'll see a bit of text "plug and play monitor on [video card name here]", it may also say [your monitors name] on [video card here]
