    Hi guys,

Been thinking about setting up a site. A lot of gear comes and goes in my studio and I have been thinking about making an online catalogue of it all. Basically a Dictionary of instruments and theiry sounds. So basically I would make a series of pretermined recordings on the different guitars, each with their different pickup settings etc. Obviously all the relevant info would be supplied with the recording. Its kind of similar to a few sites that have a few sound samples on it except more info and combinations would be provided.

I might also do direct guitar recordings that could be reamped into peoples own amps. For amps you would have different EQ settings etc.

This is obviously not a perfect system but I am so sick of struggling to find some sample sounds of the things I am trying to buy and EVERYTHING sounds the same on youtube.

The first problem i can think of is hosting the files.....

    Anyone care to discuss this?

    Dave

Great idea, in order for it to be a success though you'll need to plan absolutely everything out. User submission is the key.

Agreed. Then, even if finding a sample sound on youtube you run into the difficulty that audio quality, especially on many webcams, is horrendous. You'd have to have some form of quality regulations when a user submits a file.

Of course. The point would be that to keep as many variables out of the equation as possible. So the person can actually hear the difference hopefuly in pickup configuration etc. There is only so far something like this can go but even something like this for someone like me, who buys and sells a lot of gear would be brilliant. Especially like the idea of the reamping.

There are a few similar resources around. I know of one or two for bass but not any for guitar though.

It'd need a lot of input from users otherwise it wouldn't work. Even still there are a lot of variables so it wouldnt be exact.

For me personally i would be interested in the amp, effects part of it. The guitar part has so many variables. Obviously the amps and effects do too but I would kill for a demo of some of the stuff people out their own.
