I am a PC head but was handed an Imac for repair like sample pict. It has a thick white line about 1 1/4" in the screen from top top bottom as soon as its powered up. It will not go away. Dose this mean a screen replacement or is the whole computer knacked? can a replacement screen be got for them and if so who supplies? Cheers.

If the line is just white pixels when they should be some other colour, the the screen itself is likely to be fine, but there may be problems with the graphics card or it's firmware.

Does the OS load, is there any other stuff on the screen, or is it just black with the white stripe?

There are several Apple resellers around the country who can look at it for you - whereabouts are you?

If you're in Dublin, Mactivate are very good in my experience...

99% of the time it will be the logic board (mobo to PC folk) on that model machine the graphics are on board and firmware is not going to be a problem, if you want you can PM me the SN and ill let you know the warranty status if you are unsure.
