    Hi,

I am currently working as an EO in a general service government department but would be very much interested in becoming a customs officer. Would there be any custom officers or former customs officers who could tell me whether its a good job and how hard is it to get the job i.e whats the procedure?

    Thanks

I'm interested in this topic also.

I'm not in the civil service, but would be interested in joining in order to eventually work in Revenue and then Customs.

Anyone with any insight into this career?

Very infrequent poster here, but here goes

To get a job in customs you have to be an officer of the revenue commissioners. If you are a serving civil servant you have to get a transfer to revenue, if you are someone applying from the outside you have to apply for civil service jobs on public jobs.ie and hope to be assigned to revenue or look for a transfer
The format is once your in revenue and are eligible (past probation at entry level), it is generally interview based but recent times have seen psychometic testing expressions of interest. Basically a general questionnaire, one complted by you and one by your manager
Customs, customs facilitation is a big part of revenue what I am eluding to above and persuming you are is the enforcment positions at ports airports etc. Any further questions givem e a shout, I will see if I can get the info for ya
