    Got it as a gift for saying thank you, and wonder how much is it worth.

    Buying any Computer is like buying a brand new car, as soon as you walk out the door with will drop in value. Expect at least a 30%+ depreciation within the first 6 months. Some exceptions would be specialised laptops like the Panasonic Toughbook where even Pentium 3 models fetch stupid money.

    Your model is pre "Centrino Duo" seems to be the latest buzz word that the manufacturers use to move their products. (Whether a dual core processor would make any difference to the average joe soap) There is Vaio Fj1z on Ebay for a buy it now price of about e730.

    €400-500 but the sony name might get you a bit more. 1.73ghz is probably a centrino so not a dual core processor, single gig of ram where as 2 is becomming standard now,smallish 80gb hdd aswell. I'd either keep it or sell it too a friend really.
