There are 7 girls on a bus

    Each girl has 7 backpacks

In each backpack, there are 7 big cats

For every big cat there are 7 little cats

Question: How many legs are there in the bus?

I will let know who ever gets the correct answer!

14 if the girls don't have the bags with them. 10990 if they do?

Argh! Buses don't have legs! (Never mind the outburst, was thinking you had said on the bus.)

This assumes that they aren't on the way to the paralympics or anything.

or the legs on the seats? too many variables!

yes... 10990 if one of the girls drives or there is no driver...

10992 if there is a driver with two legs...

more than this if any of the cats are pregnant, (or the girls or the driver)

more again if the legs of seats count.... (Thanks Zuroph)

How about 0? There are 7 girls on the bus but the question is how many legs in the bus. A long shot I know but I'll stick with it.

    If that's wrong I'll go with 10992

Can someone explain how 10992 is the correct answer?
Iim getting 1582 as explained below
    7 girls 14 legs
    49 backpacks 0 legs
    49 big cats 196 legs
    343 little cats 1372 legs

    total legs 1582

In each backpack, there are 7 big cats
You have the wrong number of big cats in your calculation....

    7 girls - 14 legs
    49 backpcks - o legs
    343 big cats - 1372
    2401 small cats - 9604
    total - 10990

forgot: the extra 2 is for the driver but I don't think that's part of the question. I'd say it's a straightforward maths question as opposed to a trick question!

What about all the other people that may / may not be on the bus?

how bout 14? since cats have paws, not legs?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,608 ✭✭✭breadmonkey

The answer is zero. The girsl are sitting on the bus, there are no legs actually in the bus.

Aren't paws attached via legs? Pretty weird cats if not:)
