Derren Brown (illusionist) is doing a one off special tonight (c4 9pm) about a horse racing system. He says he can pick the winner of every race !!!!

Could be worth a look, we might finally be able to bring down the bookies :D

If this is not appropriate for this forum mods, feel free to delete.

hmmm if you could pick every winner surely you'd keep it to yourself and live a very nice life instead of publicising it!

His shows are very entertaining. He said a lot of work went into the system to make it work and people might not want to bother with it.

My guess is he fooled somebody into thinking they're placing bets.

He done something simular years ago or maybe it was someone else where he went to the tote and said No 8 winner for example and the person paid out.

Suspect he is actually going to perdict them now.

i saw that one were he went up and told yer one at the counter ' this the winner ' and she paid out. handy trick to know! as for a 'guaranteed' method of beating the bookies, well i suppose the fact he can still walk says it'll really, dont imagine such an enterprise would go un-noticed. should be interesting though.

A read a really good article a few years ago where it proved his shows are faked... as in, the staff in the bookies are actors, etc.

Ha ha, very clever though. I was wondering why the races had so few runners. Some money spent on it.

His standard trick. He puts the idea in their head through clever use of words and movements. So where they think they are acting of their own accord he's basically brainwashed them. Nevertheless if he entered my bookies (not that i have one) i'd still boot him out.

as robdcu has pointed out though, he never showed how he pulled off the picturews and 1.458 billion to 1 stunt....

Fair enough brainwashing is a bit strong but i'm sure he could if he were so inclined. Agreed that this show was poor. He is obviously running out of ideas.

A friend of a friend worked on the show and she said that Derren hypnotised the people working behind the counter before filming with both permission of the staff and the management of the Tote office.

It's against broadcasting regulations in the UK to show a full hypnosis routine, so you don't get to see all of what Derren does during any given session.

Derren also uses a lot of powerful NLP techniques in his routines.

I thought he was picking only horses in 6 runner races. I backed Nauton Brook that day it ran and thier was 16 runners in that race, confirmed by racingpost.co.uk, so its a farce of a show, they never showed what bet the woman had on her slip and the bookie paying them out was all fixed.

ya he put the bet on in an area that looked like a shed off the paddocks of the course and then collected out infront of the stands in the bookie stand area??

Darren Brown has some questions to answer?
