Some Gig photos for C&C please

I shot my first gig on Wednesday night in the Button Factory. Looking for some advice mainly on how I can improve my shots. I knew gig photography would be hard but didn't realise how hard until I tried. I had my 40D and 50mm 1.8 (no flash used, although I did have my flash on my camera to make me look more important ;)). I stuck the camera on manual with high ISO and basically chimped my way (every time the lights changed signaficantly) through four bands. My main aim was to try get composition and exposure right. I did try to get some different angles especially with the bass player in one of the bands because he was all over the stage.

I didnt go for straight B&W in the processing because I thought it was too contrasty. Maybe that was a mistake.

Anyways here are a few and there is more on my flickr.

Should I take a leaf out of Homer's book "If you try and don't succeed, never try again"?

3 would be my favorite, just looks gritty as hell, love it. But overall their class. What ISO were you using? And who were the bands?

I like them all, the 2nd and 4th would be my picks.
Looks like the guy in no.1 is looking directly at the camera, or maybe the photographer ;)

Thanks a mill guys for your feedback, much appreciated.

@RCNPhotos - I was using different ISOs from 1000+, depending on the lights. It was my first real test of the 40D at those type of ISOs in bad lighting conditions.

The bands were The Seks, The Discarded Retarded, The OnOff and Homestar Runner. I have only posted pics of The Discarded Retarded and Homestar Runner in this thread.

Cheers for taking the time to look and comment. When I have finished processed a batch I always doubt myself especially with regard to processing.

As for the gig I really enjoyed it. I love gigs anyway but thought that bringing a camera would take from it but I didn't find that it did in any way. I still got to watch the bands and listen to the music. I'll deffo be doing it again :)
