Consolidating iTunes Library

What does this do? There's a sinister message saying it will "copy all your music into the iTunes Music folder... This Cannot Be Undone".

Does this mean I'd have doubles of everything? Or what?

Is it a good thing to do?

The music is copied to ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music and the library references point to there. If you're worried about duplicates, either don't consolidate the library or delete the originals.

Foolishly, I thought that 'consolidating' should mean *removing* duplicates.
