Film Forum Movie Meet Ups?

Seems to be a film that has garnered a lot of interest on the film forum and something I've always thought we should do more often in this forum is have a few drinks and go to cinema and have a bit of a argument about the film afterwards.

So for those in Dublin I propose giving Cloverfield in the Savoy a go for the 8.50 showing today.

I'll be in Madigans next door from around 6.30 onwards. I'm sure I can drag Blitzkrieg along too.

    Anyone else up for it?

If you do pop along, watch out for a table with lots of kinder eggs on it... it's my current obsession.

(Note: I've been avoiding the main Cloverfield thread as I don't want any spoilers, so please don't post any here if you have seen the film)

maybe some advanced notice would help. But its definitely an idea for future movies, but give people at least 2 or 3 days notice beforehand.

To be perfectly honest I was drinking when I posted this thread.... too much bushmills.

But yes... there is no reason why we can't make a proper go of it in future.

Oh.. I don't post that much... at least not in a sleazy way anyway... Although I am only after one thing and that's kinder egg toys.

And you don't find me in the threads about menstrual cups either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Ha... I'm pretty sure we've met already.

Anyway... it was just myself and Blitzkrieg in the end. At least it was an excuse to eat kinder eggs, as if I needed an excuse.

Cloverfield is amazing though... it's not a movie, it's a roller coaster.... can't wait to go again.

This is an idea we should really get off the ground. However, a little bit of notice wouldn't go astray ;)

**** Iron Man. Dark Knight for the win :D
Maybe something at the film festival too - can imagine a lot of boardsies will be attending at some point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭ztoical

Dark Knight for the win :D

Would suggest one for Dark Knight but I'll be new york for it - hoping to blag my way into the DC screening [they always have one for the DC staff for comic related movies] if not maybe the NBR screening :D - doesn't stop anyone here putting one together for dublin thou.

Well festival wise I want to see
    Cassandra's Dream
    Joy Division
    Priceless (Hors de Prix)
    Funny Games
    Savage Grace
    Charlie Bartlet
Love in the Time of Cholera
    Mister Lonely
    Lars and the Real Girl
    The Other Boleyn Girl

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

"I'm a Cyborg" might be one in the festival that a lot in the film forum would be interested in.

It's the new film from Park Chan-wook, who did Old Boy.

The Surprise film isn't sold out yet either. There might be a good few interested in The Orphanage as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,985 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

City of Men (Cidade dos Homens) might interest as well, it's similar in vein to City of God (amazing film)

I'd be up for going along to something...

I'd love to meet up, see a film and afterwards discuss said film over a friendly drink. I would have given anything for someone whom I could have discussed Cloverfield with last night, as the friends I saw it with all hated it and didn't want to talk about it. That and the fact that they wouldn't wait for the credits and headed into town without me.

Iron Man, The Dark Knight and The Incredible Hulk are three films I'd be up for seeing with some boardsies.

Def having an Iron Man meet up with the comics board and if it works out prob a Dark Knight, Hulk, and Hellboy one as well.

    Hello all
Well Ive been on the ladies lounge a few weeks, but I only came across this forum at the weekend.

So myself and LilyM1980 are going to see Cloverfield this Tuesday and I see that there is a lot of interest in this thread in going to see it so I thought I see if any of you is interested in coming along too. We are going to see the 7.20pm show in the UGC, Parnell St and will be meeting up at 6ish to go for food first - not sure where yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,746 ✭✭✭Drag00n79

I'd be on for this too - especially Dark Knight.

I'd have popped along. But I've already seen it twice at this stage and I don't think I'll be out of work for a while yet.

But enjoy... hope you don't get motion sickness.
