Regatta Softshell XPT Jacket - Any good?

I saw a nice Regatta softshell XPT jacket in TK Maxx that claims it's waterproof and breathable and I've been googling like mad to find out if their gear is any good or not, but can't find any review sites.

Anyone have a Regatta softshell XPT jacket?

When I used to hike, regatta gear was rubbish, but maybe they make good stuff now?

Being waterproof and breathable is important to me. I have a lowe alpine triple point ceramic jacket that is utterly useless since it's always wet inside, so I'm wondering if this regatta would be a good replacement. Big plus for me, is that it's cheap and looks great.

    So what do you think?

A relation of mine works in a sports store...told me never buy 1)regatta 2)columbia 3)tresspass as they're all rubbish. So thats what I've been schooled! Something about the 3 brands does seem awful cheap and flimsy though.

thanks for the reply. Although in a lot of cases I'd tend to agree with your friend, I've often found that there is a huge amount of bias towards the big name manufacturers. In some cases this is justified, but my experience is from a time when Regatta really was rubbish.

My mother in law has a trespass waterproof coat and has nothing but praise for it.

In the end I bought that regatta jacket and have to say, it's perfect. Been in some heavy rain already and the jacket has performed great. Much better than my expensive Lowe Alpine triple point ceramic jacket.

I have one, it's light and breathable but not really warm, useful for summer or as an extra under layer in winter.

Yikes - Regatta and Columbia are the two brands I was looking at. ;) I'm off to Syria/Jordan next week on an adventure holiday and was looking for a relatively cheap (30 - 60), lightweight rain jacket with a hood just in case of showers (up til March, the weather is mild there). A Columbia jacket from a store in Capel St seems to fit the bill. Great Outdoors also has foldaway Regatta ones.

Any ideas what kind of material I shold be looking for? I notice they either seem to be nylon (Columbia) or polyamide (Regatta's "Isolite 5000"). Goretex tends to be used only for the heavyweight shell jackets.

i do not agree with you.
I usedto use tresspass jacket, and now i have regatta (one of the x-ert isotex 10000) and its brilliant.
The low-end models are rubbish, but the top-ones are grate.

Regatta are complete crap if you want to use it day-long in wet weather....

Save your shillings and buy a 'proper' one instead.
