    Hey guys,

Im planning on buying a good tactical vest. Now as im still a student, it cant be to pricy. I looked on all the Irish sites and the selection is ok. But i checked ehobby and they have great vests and fantastic prices. I had a look at the buyer experence thread on boards, but i would be all night trying to read every page.

I was just wondering about ehobby, as you all know theres always a catch:(. Has anyone bought equipment from them before? and is there things i shouldnt buy from them?

    Cheers lads for your help:).

    yeah,

You have to say, they cant be beat for price. So i wont get stiffed by customs and pay a load of extra cash?

I'm not just saying this because I'm a retailer, but my experience of the eHobby vests is very bad.

I bought a Molle vest and it lasted a half day at Predator before falling to bits. Fastners dropping off, zip splitting and molle straps peeling away.

    Never again :)

what about the Webtex stuff, is that any good? oh say versus Arktis? which i beleive is fairly pricey

I had a feeling that there would be a catch. Im mostly best off spending the extra cash and get a good vest which will last me a long time, rather than buying something i will regret.

I've found Webtex to be rather excellent. I have a lovely assault vest by Webtex that I've used on and off for a while now. It's served me well and doesn't show a mark for it. It's rarely used anymore though and it probably won't be at all after I get the CIRAS I'm ordering next week.

I appreciate that you like to help getting people to give me money, but I also realise that you're only doing it because you know I, in turn, will fork it over to you, plus some extra on top.

I'd rather keep that webtex though. I've used it for a varied range of things, even used it to carry films, batteries, flashes and lenes when I was shooting a big football event last summer. That thing saved me so much hassle.

I got a vest from ehobby two months ago and before I even used it two pop button were broken as well as a buckle. Fixed it up as best I can and have skirmished with it 3 times, so far so good but would still recommend you buy from a local retailer.

I still have my vest from eHobby, and it's seen a lot of action at home, up North, and abroad.

With that said, it's not MOLLE, and the snap-buttons are crap and some of them don't work, and the crocodile clip fasteners can break (but they're easily replaced with 10c in the great outdoors).

The guts of the vest has stood up to abuse though. I guess I just got lucky. And in a shameless bit of self-pimping, I'll be getting rid of it when my Guarder MOLLE replacement arrives (feckin' post! grrrr!!)

as it happens i just emailed ebayb on the paraclete to confirm the colour. it looks khaki, but could easily be some shade of OD..a lot of the pics of colours is very tricky...

Wonder if it would work well with multicam combats?? If it is khaki with a mix of OD might work?

Hmm got one myself from ehobby last year and its still holding up well. On saying that it was one of the more expensive ones at around $65 + $15 shipping.

In defence of Ehobby i got a Swat style black vest from them. 3 m16/g3 sized pouches on the front, a crap load of shotgun shell holders, neck brace (which i removed) and crotch flap (which is just fun to say...go on try it...."Crotch Flap"....see?) It also has a back/shoulder mounted radio pouch. The thing cant break. Theres nothing really on it too break so im very happy with it. Only problem is if you are lieing down even with the neck brace removed its awkward to raise your head, wouldnt recomend for the sniper types.

Webbtex is fine for light use is Airsoft and Civvie street. It dosnt hold up to full on mil use, their boots are crap as well. Arktis is pro-mil kit and generally top notch stuff.

Webtex make copies of alot of pro-mil gear.

I bought the same CIRAS last October along with another load of MC stuff. The vest is excellent quality - I've been using it every weekend since without any problems.

I was in MIA earlier and they have new VIPER CIRAS vests there which look really fantastic quality - seriously worth checking out - and you can fit em on before you buy - I bought another vest from ebaybanned after the CIRAS but it was simply too small/tight and very, very uncomfortable. Waste of money...:(

My advice - get to MIA and look at the top quality vests they are selling first before you do anything. You will get what you pay for and at least you have the piece-of-mind and back-up from an Irish store, and you dont have the risk that comes with import duty/customs...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

If your looking for vest a good place to look would be the pantac line ( used to be called phantom, some of the irish retailors do stock them along with wgc redwolf and scope and laser, the pantac line are well made good value and the best i've come across myself.

I got the RSA tactical vest in an army surplus store in waterford, its a really good quaility, from my experience its a Mil Spec design. The pockets and lashings are excellent quality...

plus you can add a good number of things to it....

HURRAH!!!! Via airmail and only 5 weeks overdue, go figure ...

But jesus this vest feels absolutely solid and like you could swing a cow out of it without fear of it coming apart. Cordua 1000 material, all the clips and velcro feels heavy duty. The fiirst thing (of many) you'll notice when you pick this vest up is the weight of it. I'll take pics n'stuff when I get home. I'm really looking forward to playing around with this to see what load-out configurations I can come up with that work for me.

I was thinking of getting this with some pouches and the suspenders for the summer, then moving on to this maybe with a few extra pouches and hydro-pack to match. Has anyone tried he Pantac/Phantom stuff? Ironwolf says it's pretty top class for airsoft, and I likes the looks of it I does....
He said the vest might be a bit warm, but I can always strip off to the belt if needs be... (Airsoft peep show, coming soon to G-Tac...)

This being the internet, someone somewhere is going to calculate the joule rating for flinging a cow out of a vest. I will not bat an eyelid if this comes to pass ...

Oh, and Alvin? .... cheers! I now have coffee up my nose from my attempt at not spitting it out all over my monitor whist laughing after reading your bovine comment :p

This vest just ... takes stuff. I could probably keep filling it and it'd still have room for more! I'm impressed. The only thing I'm missing that my original vest had was a water pouch. But that's easily remedied.

Well, a quick google suggests the average weight of a bovine is around 400kg, and you'd have to lift the cow with a crane, since cranes dont move very fast, i'm gonna say somewhere between 20 and 50fps at the point of release.

    Therefore:

    1/2(400) * (20^2) = 80000

    1/2(400) * (50^2) = 500000

So somewhere between 80k and 0.5m Joules

Guess that means we wont be flinging any cows around at hrta :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,758 ✭✭✭Stercus Accidit

The cow launcher would have to incorporate a barrel though, thats why trebuchets are a common sight at hrta...

Ah .... classic moments. Two memorable quotes come to mind :D

King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?
Sir Galahad: What are you doing in England?
French Soldier: Mind your own business.

    and

French Soldier: I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries.
