    Hi,

    I have xpmce running for 2 years now and no issues so far :D

    but got a few music vids lately and they will not play or will hang mce.

    I loaded Starcodecs at the start and they worked fine, til last week.

    question: what codecs should I use and how do I unload the ones that are there.

    I use K-Lite Mega Codecs pack with the included Media Player Classic, that comibnation plays EVERYTHING I've thrown at it, not heard of StarCodecs so I'd advise you uninstall that and use K-Lite ones instead! Files also play fine thru WMP if thats a neccesity... Btw HERE is the K-Lite codecs!

    They should be listed under Control Panel-Add/Remove programs, also attempt to start the klite codec setup and it might detect you have that pack installed and give you the option to uninstall it!

    I use ffdshow with vista mce and it's pretty much trouble free for me.

    download gspot to find out the exact codec it requires. Klite often causes more problems that it solves, but YMMV.

    Never had a issiue with K-Lite tbh, have had issiue with others in the past xp codec pack naming one, K-Lite sets up so FFD Show will automaticly play everything it can to ensure little problems, also installs AC3 Filter for dvd audio and all the others you need, honestly, I've never ever had an issiue using K-Lite and have used it for years on xp and now vista, highly reccomend it :). Also K-Lite installs the G Spot codec tool automaticly when installed... You can access it in the start menus folder for K-Lite

    un-installed all other - 2- codecs packs and put in k-lite.

    all vids working now.

    and in fact it showed I had one or two damaged items associated with audio & video as it was installing.

    so - all is fixed,

    Glad it worked :), And yeah the damaged associations thing is normal enough, just some left overs from other codecs you had installed,

    what would casue vista media center to play videos (avi etc) files in a glitchy/jerky manner....the same files work as normal in windows media player classic but when i play them from vista media center they're jerky
    I'm using klite codec pack for ages now and this problem has just begun, vista was playing everything fine for the past year, i've reinstalled all codecs and updated my gpu driver...probelm is driving me nuts...I'm thinking it can only be the media center build itself has somehow become corrupted and i need to reinstall the os to fix it....any ideas before i do that?
