    I can never seem to head my head round stapleford, with gross net scores etc. If I have a shot on a par 4 and shoot 5 is that 3 points etc ???

    All depends on your handicap. This dictates how many shots you are allocated on which holes!

    18 holes on the course and they are marked with a difficulty rating. 1 is hardest and 18 is easiest.

    If your handicap is 18 you are allowed 1 shot on each hole. If your handicap is 25 you are allowed 2 shots on holes rated 1 - 7 and 1 shot on holes rated 8 - 18.

    Net score is gross score ( number of stokes to finish hole) - Number of shots allowed due to handicap and rating of the hole.

    Points allocated on net score, 1 for a bogey, 2 for a par, 3 for a birdie etc.

    Make sense?

    Edit: In your example you would get 2 points.

    OK - firstly it's called 'Stableford'

    It works on a points basis

    Albatross = 5pts
    Eagle = 4pts
    Birdie = 3pts
    Par = 2pts
    Bogey = 1pt
    Double Bogey = 0pt

    Now if you play of 18 handicap, you get one shot per hole, so in this case you will score as follows

    Albatross = 6pts
    Eagle = 5pts
    Birdie = 4pts
    Par = 3pts
    Bogey = 2pt
    Double Bogey = 1pt

    At holes where you have a shot you add a point on to your score as per the first table.

    Cheers lads that helps, reckon I am round 18 but could never seem to total points based on that. This year intend to calculate points every round and join somewhere in order to get offical handicap.
