    Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has any strong opinions on the value of Adobes DNG format? I know it's a fairly new standard (2005ish) and seems like a good idea but does anyone actually use it?

I do, I shoot in ORF (Oly Raw Format) and convert to DNG on import to Lightroom . I do this for two reasons,

a: When I shot with an E500 the raws were not compressed (E510's are) whereas the DNG's are, so there is a decent space saving,

b: I can write the lightroom metadata directly to DNG's with no need for sidecar XMP files which makes life easier when backing up or moving files about.

I use it also, because my CS2 doesn't like my NEF files (maybe I am missing a plugin or something) but anyway, yeah, i use it but am new to everything RAW anyway.

because my CS2 doesn't like my NEF files

You might have to update your Camera Raw Plugin for CS2 to recognise your NEF files. Unless of course it's one of the newer Nikons (from D40x onwards I think), then you'd have to upgrade to CS3.

Back on topic - I don't use the DNG format. I already have enough problems with having to convert my RAW to JPG files and would find another file format to contend with just a little too much hassle.

    Hi run_forrest_run.

Yeah me too, have only recently started to shoot in RAW and am I'm having a look at Lightroom for workflow management. It was the default import option but I didn't know much about it.... didn't realise it was compressed in comparison to the Canon RAW file format though. Not sure if that's a good thing ....
