Snipers stealth killers and general sneakying is becoming more popular
the berget 6 website even has rules for knife kills

what do players think of a new blanket rule that you cannot give away the enemies position if hit

also knife kills and silenced kills are ruined but players screaming "hit" why not just throw up a hand

should kills render you silent 52 votes

    I agree.

One problem though. There are those players oout there who operate on the philosophy of keep firing until he squeals "Hit!".

from what i can see the sport is still new here, It is going to take a little bit of time to changes peoples way of thinking,

It all comes back to the honor system,

    Take your Hits!

Yes, people should die and then proceed straight to the deadzone/respawn without speaking.

It takes some discipline though not to warn people when you just been sniped or when someone has sneaked round and flanked you and the rest of your team are unaware, but it makes the game more fun and more realistic if you can just hold your tongue.

Depends compleatly on the game being played at the time. Its a giveaway when sombody walks off to the regen or the safe zone as much as calling hit. Can we expect people who are hit to slump over and play dead in every game? I like the flags the yanks use.

Yup flags would be a great idea,

No calling hit, no walking back to a regen. Hit the ground, hold up a red flag and hold your liver in until a medic arrives with the superglue

i think it's mostly a matter of circumstance.

if someone has made the effort to kill you quietly, such as by single shot, bang (quietly) or by knife where applicable, then it is in the spirit of the game to just put up the hand, leave quietly and make every effort to be discrete so as not to unfairly impede their progress.

if however you are taken out with a volley or in a firefight, then by all means make it clear you're out.

the thing about going down this route is that it's all good and well in principle but it must be remembered that some people are more "competitive" than others and just generally don't like getting taken out or loosing - these people will do whatever they can to hinder your progress and you needn't be surprised if you get called for attempting to take a silent kill using a replica without a silencer. It's a very pernikkity and immensely petty detail, but i guarantee that there are players out there low enough to make an argument on account of the fact.

on the whole, i think that those who play in the genuine spirit of the game will use their discretion on this issue and you won't have any problem with them - but to try and enforce this as a game rule will probably just wind up causing arguments.

I think it's best left in a similar context to the bang rule - you don't "have" to accept it, but it's in the spirit of the game to do so.

as for the "dead men don't talk" aspect, as far as i was aware, that's just an accepted norm anyways (granted it's not always adhered to, but again, it's in the true spirit of the game).

    • Eliminated participants are not allowed to communicate in any way with other active participants.

Already covered in HRTA rules which everyone who plays at HRTA has read and signed. I would assume it's covered in the rulebooks of other sites as well.

When I started skirmishing and didn't know better I have to admit I did speak going past team mates on the way to the safe area/respawn. Now I don't do it anymore, it ruins the game, the fun and the whole point. If someone has gotten into a good position then they should be applauded not punished because you are bitter at being tagged.

I think sometimes the excitement and adrenaline gets the better of people and they talk without thinking.

I voted for 'all attempts to die quietly', but I need to explain that.

I'm guilty of the 'dead man talking' - we all are at some point or other although these days I try to shut up other than say "hi" or to confirm I'v ebeen hit or something.

I voted the way I voted but on context. In the middle of a full on pitched fight, by all means let the world know you've been hit. But as already said, if someone's gone to the effort to do a 'silent' kill or some such, then you should reciprocate in kind.

I gotta say if your killed and if you have a sling for your AEG put it behind you put your hands on your head and keep your mouth closed
Or if you dont have a sling put your AEG on your shoulder and sulk quietly:p

    I agree with extremetaz:

Shot in the body: Shout hit, your gonna scream like fook in real life.
Shot in the head: Hand in the air, if needed quiet "hit".
Sniped: Get up and walk, say nothing.
    Bang killed: Same as above.

By this i do not implicate that headshots against players without full masks is accepatble.

TBH, the last thing anyone is going to do by natural instinct if hit in the head is quietly take it. It's a sore place to take a hit and you're natural reaction is going to be a yelp whilst clutching the area that got hit.

Or, if not pain, the shock value in taking a hit to the head is going to elicit something similar to a 'yelp' only a little more rude perhaps ;)

    Here here!

Agree totally, at some stage we have all been guilty of talking while dead, whether it has been blatantly indicating how and where you were hit or simply just "ah some feckin sniper got me" it does tarnish the game. Bang and Knife kills do not require you to start shouting out you're hit, just hold up your AEG and walk back to the regen. Another thing I hate is the pointing. Dead men don't talk..... and they most certainly don't point to where the enemy is concealed!

Sorry, my comment was in reference to Lethal_Bullet's comments about taking a hit to the head silently.

When hit 'Do the walk of shame'. And try to keep it buttoned.

Howerver, there is one instance where I'd consider throwing that rule out the window.

That's when someone offers a bang kill in order to remain hidden.
I've been mulling the idea of not taking it at times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

there shouldnt be an offer of a bang kill, there is no choice in the matter, if someone has the drop on you and they say bang they could have just as easily pulled the trigger, a single shot from an aeg is fairly hard to hear, it's not louder than someone saying bang so using it to stay hidden shouldnt be an issue either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,258 ✭✭✭Cheeky monkey

Ahh you should always take bang kills its nice not to be shot at 2 feet :D

Interesting, I suppose it all depends on how close they are, if they offered a bang kill from right beside me because they wanted to remain hidden I'd take it as a knife kill and keep it buttoned, but if it was at the further end of the 10 feet minimum distance its pushing your luck a bit, plus its abusing the bang kill rule, just like running around with no ammo trying to get bang kills, all it does is tempt people to start ignoring the bang kill rule, and down that path lies broken teeth.

A sniper wouldn't take that shot, is my point. Bang kills are a safety protocol, not a tactical advantage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,258 ✭✭✭Cheeky monkey

Actually I would take that shot because its quieter for me to shoot rather then to say bang with the face mask but I dont want to go shooting someone in the face because its the only body part I can see which is often the case

Yeah, I take the kill whenever I'm bang killed, but sometimes, when you've got someone shouting bang at ya and their AEG/Sniper rifle is pointed somewhere else and they're not even looking in your direction I do wonder about it.

I mean sure if someone is offering me the choice between getting a close range blast of bbs or just accepting my death in a pain
free manner then I'll gladly accept, but if it's a case of I think I see someone right beside me so I'll shout bang at them with my AEG pointed somewhere else and they have to take it because it's better than being shot, even if I didn't really know where they were to shoot them in the first place then that's a different kettle of fish.

Although this is a different debate than whether dead men should speak or not, which they shouldn't, would a Jeremy Beadle joke be inappropriate at this juncture?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

well if its a shot coming from a sniper, then your too far away for a bang kill

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,258 ✭✭✭Cheeky monkey

Wait I'm wrong in saying what I said he probably wouldn't do that

my aug came with a red stopper for the barrel so you would put it on when you died or were transporting the gun, i had assumed all AEG's came with this for that reason but i mustve been wrong but tbh it would be good for everyone to have one

Rubber knives are a terrible idea. It's a non contact sport. Bringing that into it starts to add elements of physical combat. Could get nasty.

Not so much the attacker with the knife as the defending individual. If you turn around and happen to see someone coming at you with a rubber knife, your first instinct will be to protect yourself from 'physical attack'. Someone could get hurt quite badly.

As for the OP, I totally agree that people should shut their mouth when they've been shot. Red rags would indeed be a great idea.

The "knife kill" operates differently to the "bang kill" in that a knife kill happens when you are close enough to a person to whisper "knife kill, you're dead" and it is silent. A "Bang kill" is supposed to be said aloud ...

... and before anyone asks I have no idea how silencers affect this rule

A silent kill with a silencer wouldn't alert any of the victims team mates. A normal kill would as you'd hear the AEG/rifle or whatever and give away your position to a certain extent. At least that's what I thought he meant.

*Bang* is just a substitute for AEG fire. Therefore the enemy should be able to hear it.

Yes just take your hit put up your hand and walk away. It also depends on the game. If your playing hunt the sniper, then just drop where your shot but if playing capture the flag your better off shouting very loud so you don't get caught in severe crossfire.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,021 ✭✭✭Hivemind187

    Good point Max.

Its really about the game isnt it? a casual skirmish based around "king of the hill" or "capture the flag" etc its not really all that much of an issue. In a MilSim if someone you took out silently were to start shouting and point in your direction it would be a pisser.
