    Hey Hey,
I was thinking about joining the DCC and just wondering if there's any/many people here involved?

There's a weekly meeting and just wondering if you could give a bit of detail as to the sorts of things you lot get up to... and input would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance.

I was in it a few years ago. They meet on Tuesdays at 8pm (or used to). Anyone can go along to the meetings even if not a member to see what goes on and to meet people and see what its like. They have a calender on their site with a list of what is happening for upcoming meetings. Some meetings might be small internal photo competitions where everyone gets to vote, oher evenings could be getting a guest speaker/photograher to speak about something specific etc... They also do courses which you get at a discounted rate if you are a member. They are a friendly bunch down there so don't be shy. I think they had about 500 members of all levels of experience, although not all 500 show up every week, maybe 50 (the place can't hold many more at one time!).
They also usually have members exhibitions on on Saturdays and are always looking for volunteers to supervise the place for a few hours.
I know once a year they take a trip somewhere in Ireland. I went on one a few years back and it was good fun.
They have darkrooms too (or used to have at least) and a small library upstairs with lots of books on photography that you can borrow. Usually after every meeting there are tea/coffee/refreshments upstairs where it's a good place to meet other members.
I think at the time membership was about €100 a year which is about €2 per week. To me thats really cheap for the amount of knowledge that you can tap into by going to the meetings and sharing ideas with like minded people.
Ther are a few regulars that have been at the club a long time and you can see the friendly rivalries whichis always good fun to watch.

    Their website is here:

Sure go down and check out a few of the meetings.

    Pete.

I was a member last year. Was particularly handy because I was living in Rathmines at the time. Moved over to the north side, and I think I was there once more...

    Some handy facilities.

Oh, it's 90 a year, and an extra fiver first time.

I'm a member of Celbridge, but the principles are similar. Well worth being a member, and the competitions do force you to stretch yourself where you otherwise would'nt.

    Strongly recomend it.

    Merv.

They haven't run any studio courses in at least 6 months according to the site, nor have they responded to my emails asking about this.

The fact that you need to complete the course in order to be allowed into the studio sucks balls just a little.

That was one of the main things I was interested in getting into.
It still sounds good, might head down on Tuesday :)
