Just finished watching it, it's very clear and pretty much answers every basic question a starter could have. It also portrays an excellent image if someone were to simply watch it for info reasons.

    Excellent work

That's good, and it has two hot chicks in it :)

only 45 seconds in, but "originated in the US" wtf? since when? do they have to try and lay claim to everything? any info i've ever read say it originated in asia

Edit: very well done video, added it to the top of the newbie sticky and the newbie questions thread

the parlay rule is interesting, never heard of it before but i think that situation has only every happened to me once or twice and we both called bang from what i remember

Technically it did with the Red Ryder bb gun. They were first made in 1938 with the purpose as far as I know of being able to have games against people.

    Never took off.

I suppose it depends on if one could define that as Airsoft or not. I mean I doubt it fired 6mm BB's made of the same material as modern ones, no hop-up. I'd say they invented the first BB marker but not really the first Airsoft.

Yeah you're right. They invented the bb gun but not airsoft in itself. That didn't really emerge till the late 70's early 80s and was definitely 100% Asian origin.

Actually the fact that they'd try to lay claim to airsoft like that IS pretty damn annoying. Shame really. I'd have added that to the newbie sticky otherwise

    Hmmm, The bang bang courtesy....

ahem... right, back to airsoft., :D
she called the ammo "pellets"., and the guns "weapons"., newbies on here will say this and get told off, then say, "well it was on that video" etc etc.,

I like the red rag thing actually., i remember a few weeks ago we were doing that "hunt the snipers" kinda game and one of the guys that was shot was just standing at the end of the lane so we didnt really know if we should shoot him or not so we did anyway., if in doubt, kill.,lol
red rag would make things easier in that respect though.

fair point, i definitely think newbies should watch the video though, so i will add a note beside it clarifying those points, americans may use those terms but we dont

Just a quick point but the Red Ryder is an actual BB gun firing steel or lead 6mm ball bearings (the BB standing for the caliber). Its still in use and has a pretty big following (big for a sub-culture anyway) who use them for hurting small furry animals and birds.

If the americans are claiming they invented Airsoft (like they claim to have invented Democracy, Liberty and the the concept of a unilateral first strike decision) then perhaps it is up to us to re-educate them.

Open challenge match against US Teams next year anyone?

I think this should be made in to a sticky for every new person to watch! Great find, Thanks

From what I've read (more than just the the wikipedia article on airsoft), Airsoft developed in Japan, but the origins are rooted in the US. Toys such as Mattel's Shootin Shell in the 50s and later other toys in the 70s.

They aren't saying Airsoft has the US to thank and certainly aren't saying that Airsoft as we know it today was created in the US. I think some people here are just too happy to jump down an american's throat these days.

This video is excellent. It gives a quick, visually pleasing introduction to the basics of Airsoft. It should be stickied.
