Have you been employed by that employer for less than 365 days?

I think it is very much in his right to. Dont get me wrong-i mean its awful having to work sundays-not a fan myself especially at 8.65 an hour-fair play for standing up but as far as he is concerned he provided you with work that you refused-its unfair but not much you can do. Hopefully the perfect job (an employer) is just around the corner!

Unless there is some reason we don't know about..... Poor you  You should have counted yourself lucky to have any sort of part time job at all.

BTW there is no such thing as a perfect job..... there will be always something you dislike about it. Kids at your age will learn the hard way.

Well then, unless you are pregnant and have joined a trade union and have been sacked directly as a result of this then I'm afraid your employer has done nothing illegal.

I disagree-i genuinely love my job. If there's something you really want just go for it-ask yourself could you really have been happy there?

You're not "doomed". Surely, he's given you notice. You can get another job.

were you told you would be working every sunday when you took the job?
and if you were, did you have the hope that you would manage to get different hours once you started.

There are loads of part-time jobs out there. See the first link in my signature.

The law in Ireland protecting employees is fairly weak if you've been working for the same company for less than a year. In general, employers hiring part-time staff are looking for flexible employees. It'd be a good idea to bear this in mind in future jobs.

    Best of luck.

I had one of those jobs...was so brilliant, loved every minute of it and got a pay rise every few months as well as bonuses...i'd still be there if only they'd moved the company to Mayo for me ...

As for being fired without notice, they have as much right to do that as you have to quit without notice...which is every.
Being part time or full time makes no difference either.
