What is it that you look for in a pair of wellies? Probably the most thing that is on your feet for a full day - do brands matter to you? Comfort? Warmth? Colour? Rubber/pvc?

Comfort and warmth are what I tend to look for. Then again, I don't wear wellies every day.

    1. Comfort/ warmth
    2. Steal toes, useful when that old cow decides to walk on your foot

    1. Insulation (i.e. warmth)
    2. Weight
    3. Toe cap (where appropriate)

In europe, unlined black rubber boots seem to be very popular...can you get these over here?

    comfort ,price, ,weight brand
I had dunlop endurance which were about 70 euro
The last 2 pairs were called nora and cost 30 euro they are lighter and more comfortable like going to work in slippers
I would rather have an all year wellie than one thats too warm or heavy in summer extra socks for winter:D

I've had my current pair of steel toe capped "Nokia" wellington boots for over 10 years and they're still going strong. Rather battered and the rubber is beginning to fail, so doubtless they'll be replaced shortly. I still have a few pairs of steel capped boots compliments of Coillte- so I'm sorted for a while though.

To keep feet warm, use piece of old carpet as insule and line the canvas/rubber side of the carpet with tinfoil to keep out the cold and keep in the heat.

Or buy the real thing.... thermal insoles, excellant job.

alas, with poor profits from farming, the old carpet and tin foil must do. However, if I win the lotto tonight, I will buy the insoles.

I use Hunter wellies all the time and I think they're great. They're comfortable and warm, and have a nice sole and heel, which is great when you're in them all day. They've also got a nice long leg, which means that if you have to walk through deep water, you'll probably be ok.

The rubber in them is good, too, and if you do accidentally prod your foot with a fork it takes quite an effort to puncture the rubber, unlike some other brands.

Overall, I'd say a good choice!

Had 2 pairs of puroforts.... they both fell apart. Disgusted with them. Those cheap green ones are quite robust.

I wear boots most of the time anyway!

i know this sounds like an oxymoron but very high quality things tend to fall apart when you abuse them a lot!! Designer clothes, ferraris, women etc. and being used everyday in an agrilultural environment is about as much abuse as any item will be subjected to!! What im tryin to say is the puroforts are great while this last altho the insoles are a fcukin joke:D

I found that the only wellies that are any good are the Muck Boot Range, they are ideal for autumn/winter weather as your piggies are like toast. There only down fall is that they are a wee bit warm in the spring /summer. but sure most of us are wearing boots at that stage.

guys i'm looking for a good pair of wellies to suit my needs. ashamed and proud to say at the same time i've had the same pair of wellies for 4 years that i got in Atlantic Homecare for €8!!

Anyway all they are to be used for is walking dogs, an hour a day, need to be comfortable for walking, very warm (won't need them in summer much), and will use them for trapsing through fields, streams, forests etc Don't wanna pay the earth for them but want a decent pair all the same.

    any suggestions?

Dunlop Purofort........ usually last 3-4 years, (others I have tried didn't last 3 weeks)

comfortable, warm , good grip, takes what comes their way in the line of acid, detergents, oil etc, & don't bring half a ton of clay on the soles.

i replace the supplied insoles after about 6 months or so with athlete's insoles from a sport's store .

    F.A.O Maidhc
I had 1 problem with 1 set of these where they began letting in water at a seam. the boots were about 8 months old at the time & were replaced with a new pair by my co-op, with no hesitation

Seriously boys and girls, there is nothing to touch the muckboots, I wear them throughout the winter months and would wear them to mass if let!
