What a dreadful hole we all live in here in Longford. It even looks like the new multistorey shopping centre opposite the barracks is not going to go ahead as there is no anchor tenant available, not surprising as we are already served by Tesco, Dunnes, Aldi, Lidl, and a little place called Supervalue, not to mention a couple of teeny weeny minnows dotted around. The streets are drab and lifeless and the inhabitants in the main seem to be throw backs to another era. there is a general air of poverty and gloom, I don't know what can be done , anything anyone can think of to improve the place?
When did you last see a guard in this town? A full station of them labouring in a sea of apathy and lethargy, hoping the phone won't ring so they will not have to stop drinking tay and separate their posteriors fron the chair and get into a car and actually let themselves be seen in the town. It might be too much of a shock for the populace!
Did you ever try to bring an article back to a shop for a refund in Longford? -bet some of you are way ahead of me here! You are looked at askance, as if this is not the done thing in these parts, we should remember that it ia not too long ago when, if you were not a business man , a member of the clergy or other form of "dignitary", you were supposed to tip your cap and step down off the pavment (where provided) in case you would be misconstrued as not paying due deference to your betters! Anyplace to go in Longford or it's hinterlands? not likely. Of course you could hire a video or go to the local fleapit, but this is not everybody's cup of tea. By the way, the food, such as it is is all overpriced and poorly cooked and presented. All in all, Longford is a good place to get out of!

Haha! One of my favourite stories is about one of the local TDs. He happened to be selling sites with planning permission. The site is located beside a stretch of road with a continuous white line. How was it solved? There is now about six feet of broken white line outside the place. A place in hell is now reserved for this guy!

    Dunno about Longford but:
    Westmeath
Do a boat trip down the Shannon or Lough Ree in Athlone
Visit The Hill of Uisneach in Ballymore
Go for a country walk along The Wastmeath Way
    Go to Fore Abbey
    Visit Locke's Distillery in Kilbeggeen

    Offaly
    Visit Clonmacnoise
    Birr Castle
    Walk around Slieve Bloom
Go to the Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre

Theres the bowling alley, but it can be taken over by pikies the odd time so have a plan B/escape route planned.
If your going to go to carrick you may as well go to boyle to forest park there which is lovely on a nice day, with an adventure thingy (for the kids!) and canopy walk there through the trees.
