charging the ipod touch problem

    im going away for two months where i wont have immediate access to a computer so i went out and bought a usb mains adaptor. problem is... when i plug it in nothing happens... it wont recognise that its plugged into a power source...
    does the ipod touch require a special 'apple' usb adaptor?
    i really want to get this sorted by tomorrow as i can imagine my trip without music and photos :(
